1st Year Birthday Party Mochi and Sandals.
Went to my nieces first birthday party last weekend. The pink and white “things” you
see is mochi (bascially rice flour). It’s a tradition to have the 1 year old put on those
sandals and stand them on the mochi. In the olden days it was a big thing for a child
to make it to their first birthday, so the celebration was very special. Later I will put
in the Japanese vocabulary for this sandals and the mochi, but I have to wait until
my wife gets home. (Try finding that in a dictionary…)
