In just about every city in Japan you will be given tissues while walking down the street.

This is a great form of advertising and is used by all types of companies.  If you think about

it who doesn’t want free tissues. Especially, during allergy and cold season! Another great

use is as TP (toilet paper) if you are in a bind and in a public bathroom. A lot of public

toilets in Japan don’t have toilet paper or are often out.

A funny story that I have about this is that when I first moved to Japan my roommates

and I had a contest to see how many tissue packs we could get in a day.  Lets just say that

we filled up a big box with these things! LOL, a good way to kill some time if you have a

day off and nothing to do.  The staff giving away these tissue advertisements can make

about 10,000 Yen a day passing them out, so it’s a pretty good part time job too.
